Tattoo Artist: Remis Cizauskas From: Dublin, Ireland
Remis grew up around the tattoo art form. As a child, he remembers admiring his dad’s ink, and being fascinated by tattoos in general. With his passion for drawing and painting, he later realized what an amazing canvas the human body is, and how tattooing is a form of art and self expression. Remis decided to make a career out of it, and started his apprenticeship about 11 years ago. He ended up at a studio in Kaunas, Lithuania, and although his apprenticeship wasn’t traditional, he spent 3 years learning all he could.
Realism is definitely his “comfort zone”, and Remis feels this style renders his best work. “I love portraits of people, and animals. I always try to make them look real. I love the impression of a tattoo being a painting or photograph…” Color pieces also give way for opportunity to be imaginative, or create an unusual piece. Remis takes his inspiration from many different sources…tattoo artists, painters, and photographers, alike. He gives much respect to David Corden for his incredibly smooth and unbelievably detailed work, and Alex de Pase for his great colors and realism.
On the technical side, his machines choices range from custom machines made for Skin City, to hand- made machines by David Canillas. Remis is fond of Fusion ink for its rich palette of colors. Obviously he is on the right track, winning several convention awards for portraits, realism, and color. He has yet to tattoo anyone famous, but wouldn’t mind seeing some of his work on a “Hollywood star”, as long as it was a cool piece! “I always try to do my best when tattooing. Each tattoo I do become special to me in some way, so I could never pick a favorite. I try not to do tattoos in a style that I don’t know or don’t feel good enough in.” ”
